Minecraft: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an in-depth course for children aged 8 to 12 years old. The course is best suited for children who are just starting out with programming or who already have a basic knowledge of programming.
The course program is designed for 8 months of intensive learning. The task of the students is to program their own agent to solve routine game tasks: build, extract resources, protect from mobs. To do this, children will master the basic topics of programming - loops, conditionals, arrays - and learn to apply the knowledge gained in practice in building the Minecraft game universe. Towards the end of the course, students will program in JavaScript, one of the most widely used and in-demand programming languages in the world.
For practical tasks in class we use the MakeCode learning environment (developed by Microsoft). This development environment is similar to Scratch (and also in terms of complexity), but offers much more comprehensive features for learning to program.
We devote 25% of our learning time to developing so-called soft skills. In the classroom or online lessons, children work in a team and communicate like professional programmers do in companies. In addition, students develop leadership, creativity, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills as they work together on projects.
